Stache Bash at the Symphony. Day 343/365

What better way to spend the night than with all our neighborhood friends at the symphony!  J and R had a blast stuffing their faces with lots of food and running around like crazy with all their friends.  The highlight of the night was when they played Overture to William Tell and J went running up the front of the crowd pretending to gallop around stage on a horse.  Sadly, however, we were robbed of first place for our BBQ theme.

And of course, no night would be complete without some of this:

Boating. Day 342/365

When you have a remote control boat with a max range of 100 feet and a 3 year old at the wheel, the safest place to use it is in water where you can reach the boat from all sides should it go out of range.  So the fountain in town was a perfect option!!  We packed a picnic dinner (and by “we packed” I mean “Mama purchased”) and headed to the green for some fun.

How? Day 340/365

Are you ever walking along and then suddenly look up and realize you have no idea how you got to where you were?  Or you’re driving and have no idea if the light you just drove through was even green?  You are moving along on auto-pilot and then something jars you back into consciousness and you look up and think “how did this happen?”  That is what some days feel like for me … I’m going with the flow and absent-mindedly nodding along or saying “sure,” “sure,” “sure” to the billions of requests (aka demands) I receive on a daily basis and then all of a sudden, I look up and think “whoa!  What are you guys doing?  How did this happen?”  That’s pretty much how the morning went.  And we just rolled with it.

“Zooooo laaaa leeee.” Day 337/365

The last song we sing at Music Together is always a slow one and the teacher, Ms. Laurie, turns the lights off and everyone “grabs a grown-up to snuggle.”   This term, we’ve been singing a song that has a chorus that is something along the lines of “zooo laaaa leeee” (truly, I have no idea what the words are but that is what it sounds like).  J loves pretending to be Ms. Laurie and today he asked R to sit on his lap and snuggle with him for the last song.  To my surprise, R said “yeah” and thus commenced J singing “zooo laaaaa leeee” with R on his lap.  I was so happy to have my camera nearby to catch this super sweet moment between them.  And I had to laugh a little when it ended with R crying because J’s version of a hug and a snuggle turned into more of a chokehold towards the end.

Toddler-speak. Day 335/365

I told J that Oma was coming to babysit because Dada and I were going to see Dave Matthews.  I told him we would be back in the morning and that Oma was sleeping over and that we would not be sleeping at home.  He then said “Mama, are you sleeping with Dave Matthews?”  I spend so much time with these munchkins who are still learning to talk that I don’t always notice that they don’t word their phrases exactly right…. until they say something like that.

Storm. Day 334/365

I haven’t always loved thunder and lightning, but as I have gotten older, I have come to really enjoy watching storms roll in.  I am always awed by the power of the booming thunder crashes and entertained by the unique rolling noise leading up to the lightning – it almost sounds like a sinister roller coaster ticking up, up, upwards before the long downward drop.  Since we have had a lot of storms lately, I have been taking the boys out onto the porch to watch them.  They mostly enjoy it, but every once in awhile, a big boom of thunder will make them come scurrying over to me for reassurance.  Tonight we had a pretty fierce storm.  I managed to snap 1 or 2 photos before they needed me and then we just cuddled on the couch (with Bauer of course) and watched the storm roll in.  J had a bright idea for us to blow into our straws (why we were playing with straws is a story for another day) and try to blow the storm away.  I wound up with quite a bit of toddler spit on my lap.
