We had a park playdate. Most of the boys were running around being boys. T, the only girl, somehow persuaded J to hang back and open an ice cream stand with her. Standing around screaming “ice cream!!” at the top of his lungs was much more his speed on this rather hot and muggy afternoon.

Cars. Day 82/365
Some boys are into trains. Others are into trucks. Mine? Mine are into cars. Big time. They just can’t get enough of them.

So many fish! Day 81/365
Tonight was back to school night. So Oma and Opa came over to watch J and R. J discovered a new app that I had downloaded called “Fish School” and started playing it with Oma and Opa. There is one part where you tap a fish and it multiplies into a school of fish and everytime J did it, he cracked up and yelled out “Oh my gosh! So many fish!”

Sunday Funday. Day 79/365
It takes on an entirely new meaning once you have kids! This Sunday we hit up the annual family fun day held in the center of town. There was lots of food to sample and some fun activities for the kids. Here’s a snippet of our day:

Hair gel? Day 78/365
The static-cling hair just makes me laugh. This kid LOVES the slide. I mean loves it. Once at the bottom he flips over and tries to climb back up so he can go down again. The minute he gets to the top, he gets so excited that he loses control and just starts flailing his legs and arms as you try to get him set up to go down again. Maniac.

“I wanna do it.” Day 76/365
This is not an uncommon phrase around here these days. My little man who was once “Mama do it” 24/7 has begun to exercise some independence. (now if only I could get him to pick up the dog poo too)

This Truck. Day 75/365
We randomly selected a book called “This Truck” from the library one day. It quickly became a fan favorite around here so when we returned it (late, of course), I figured I’d swing by the bookstore to pick it up. Lo and behold, it’s a tougher book to find than I had anticipated. Enter Amazon. Amazon found it used for $1.99 (which was way less than our whopping $16 library fine). J doesn’t care at all if it has the dewey decimal system and “Property of the NY library” stamped all over it. All he cares about is that he, once again, gets to say “this truck is ennoorrmous.” And “this truck has NO LOAD!” And to point to the headlights on the last page with the mack truck and ask me what they are.
Oh, and to show R the trucks but not let him actually touch the book.

Things Monkeys Love: last days of summer. Day 74/365
When we go to the park, I always ask J if he wants to go in the swing. Without hesitation, his reply each time is, “No, Mike wants to go in the swing.” J won’t swing, but he loves pushing Mike. And his brother, too.
This one, I think, perfectly illustrates the joy of childhood – no working, no stress just lots of love and lots of fun. (but if I stare at it for TOO long, I start to hum “the hills are aaaaalliiivvveee”)
