Zoo membership. Day 28/365

Despite the fact that we have been members of the zoo for two years now, this is the first time J and R have seen the reptile/amphibian house.  We normally hit up the train ride and the touch aquarium.  Then we may squeeze in one or two other things before it’s time for lunch and then home for naps.  They thought it was pretty cool when the docents came out with a live hermit crab, turtle, frog and other reptiles/amphibians until the turtle peeked out of its shell and then they wanted out of there as fast as their little feet could carry them.

First night. Day 27/365

J got his new bed last week, but Mama totally spaced on ordering a mattress.  After building up all the excitement for the new bed, he took it quite well (for a 3 year old) when we told him he had to wait a few more days to actually sleep on it.  But we promised it would all be worth it when he saw his pink sheets and pink beanbag chair.  And it was.  The squeals of happiness were probably heard down the street.

Ice cream anyone? Anyone? Day 25/365

I love ice cream.  Like I love it so much that it would be my deathrow last meal.  Possibly my favorite dessert ever.  So I keep trying to take these monkeys to get ice cream, but they STILL don’t like it.  So we wind up just getting cupfuls of m&m’s from the topping bar.  Maybe next summer.

This slide was a HUGE hit with R.  It was nearly  impossible to stop him from trying to cut the (very very long) line and forget trying to explain why he only got one turn.  We literally dragged him away kicking and screaming and received a lot of sympathetic stares from onlooking parents.  He screamed the entire walk from the event to our car and then it took both of us to hold R down so that we could get him into his carseat – he was doing the ol’ stiff as a board maneuver so we couldn’t get his butt down to buckle him in.  Poor kid.  I think we may need to get him one for his birthday so he can go up and down to his heart’s content.

“R, say green.” Day 20/365

There are just so many reasons why I find J reading stories to R to be one of the cutest things ever: it’s adorable the way J asks R to come into his room and read stories with him, J takes so much pride in trying to teach R new words from the books, R just adores J and loves anytime that J pays positive attention him, and finally, I love hearing J’s own version of what the story is about.

First ever. Day 19/365

We went to a dine-in theater with some friends of ours to see Planes Fire & Rescue.  We went fully expecting to have wasted the $56 it cost for four tickets and boy were we pleasantly surprised when they both not only loved the movie, but watched the entire thing!  Being able to all sit together on a “couch” instead of in movie theater seats and having dinner served definitely contributed to the success of the night.  J sat for the entire movie totally transfixed by the “it’s a HUGE TV” screen and R, well, he was his usual active self but it was very manageable because he could move up and down all along the couch and move from sitting to standing to sitting to standing to his heart’s content.  We did have a somewhat difficult time stopping him from constantly turning around and showing the people behind us “LyLy” and repeatedly pressing the red call button for the waitress.  But overall, it was a huge success and really so much fun!!  And even though I am totally biased when it comes to how cute I think my kids are, most of the people in the theater got a kick out of the few times R shouted out “oh noooooo!” in his concerned little two year old voice when something bad happened in the movie.
