A few weeks ago, Oma and Opa were babysitting. Oma got a blister so she put a bandaid on her foot. Ever since then, every once in awhile, J tells me he needs a bandaid for his foot “just like Oma.” So today when he was in the bath and told me he needed one, I tried to explain that it wouldn’t stick while he was wet. That apparently was not getting through, so we fashioned a “bandaid” out of a washcloth.
Apple picking. Day 92/365
I’m not sure exactly where he got the idea from, but J woke up from his nap and wanted to go apple picking. So we rushed out of the house to get to Wightman’s before they closed at 6 pm. In our hurry, mom of the year over here failed to notice two things: J had a fever and R had no shoes. We got to the farm and it started off pretty rocky. I had to make two separate trips to the car for goldfish and for more water. We headed into the orchard and realized it was a long, uphill walk on a gravel path. So we took turns carrying R, which was no easy feat given that he weighs 25 lbs and was so squirmy because he wanted to walk. About halfway up the hill, J decided he wanted to go home and would walk no further. One fifteen minute tantrum later we *finally* made it to some trees that actually had apples left. After all that, we actually had a pretty good time and R didn’t even care he had no shoes.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Day 91/365
Their faces pretty much say it all. This is the epitome of the J/R dynamic around here these days. J is occupied. R is curious. R comes over to J. One of two things happens: a) J pushes R away or b) J takes whatever toy R has because he “needs” it and R hits J or bites his own hand because he is frustrated.

Bribery. Day 90/365
It was unseasonably warm today so I put J and R in shorts. For about 20 minutes after he got dressed, all J did was cry “my pants are too short” while trying to pull the bottom hem further down his legs. So I did what all good moms do. I told him he could wear his most favorite pink shirt if he kept the shorts on. I love how he looks like such a little man with his leg crossed over his knee while eating what he refers to as “the big raspberries.”

Self control. Day 89/365
Or rather, the lack thereof. This is why I hate buying Halloween candy too far in advance of Halloween. Well… perhaps “hate” is a strong word.

George got booted. Day 88/365
Hope he comes back soon!!! I think we should just fire the entire House and Senate and start all over again. I bet J would agree if he understood it was their fault he cannot visit George.
But today would have been a short visit anyhow. Shortly after we saw the sign, someone pooped. And someone else did not have any diapers or wipes with her. So to use J’s favorite word – we went home “superfast.”

Headed south. Day 85/365
The flocks of birds that swarm the huge trees in our neighborhood as they head south for the winter are pretty cool. This picture doesn’t really do justice to the noise they make nor does it truly capture the magnitude of birds that were flying overhead, but I tried!
