A walk. Day 23/365

Rainy morning turned into a nice afternoon and J was dying to go outside so we went to the park. Not much else to report.

Showdown! Day 22/365

We walked over to some baseball fields by my house.   When we got there, there were 3 groundhogs roaming the field.  Two of them fled before Bauer even noticed them.  But this guy remained stubbornly in the middle of the field.  Now, to be honest, I enjoy watching Bauer chase after animals but only because I know he’s too slow to ever catch any of them.  So I kind of directed Bauer towards this little guy.   I immediately regretted it once I noticed that when Bauer finally saw him, he didn’t run away like the other two did.   Then when we got closer I realized why.  He was a mangled, old, injured little groundhog.  I felt terrible that Bauer was terrorizing the poor  little guy, but was also impressed by his scrappiness – lots of flailing arms and clicking teeth and hissing at Bauer.  Bauer was so curious he wouldn’t leave the poor thing alone.  So I had to leash him up, which ended Bauer’s reign of terror for the day.

And the winner is…. Day 20/365

You never know if J is going to want Mama or Dada to feed him his morning bottle of milk (yes, he’s 2 and still having a bottle, bad parents, we know).  Sometimes even J doesn’t know.  He’ll change his mind numerous times in the short trip from his room to the family room.  On this particular morning, he went right down to the wire with Mama and then after Dada was already sitting and feeding R his bottle the J pulled a switch and wanted Dada.  So Dada was on double bottle duty.

First time without crying. Day 19/365

Today was the first time that J sat for his haircut without crying and without me having to constantly pop m&m’s in his mouth to keep the tears and freaking out under control.  He just sat there and ate two grape lollipops like it was nothing.  It was a proud moment for me, but also a little sad not to feel “needed” anymore. (excuse the low quality iPhone pics)

Apparently, I spoke too soon.  I promised he could ride the carousel since he was so brave.  The minute the ride started moving the tears and freaking out started until I let him hold my hand.  Double bonus, I got some exercise walking around and around and around and around and around … the carousel while he held onto my hand for dear life.

Trying to create a bookworm. Day 18/365

R does not like books.  I can maybe get through 2 or 3 pages before he pushes it out of his way to go explore something else.  This is quite a change from J, who loved books and would sit with you for almost an hour just looking through books, flipping pages, and touching all the different textures.  So in an effort to garner more interest, I took R to the library to pick out some books.  He had a blast pulling them off the shelves and trying to eat them.  It remains to be seen whether we can up the page count.

Cars. Day 16/365

Cars. 16/365

J was sick and pretty miserable. He didn’t want to do much so after much trial and error with Amazon Prime on the Roku, we finally downloaded Cars so that J could watch his first ever movie. He looooooved it. (for about 15 minutes).

King for a day. Day 15/365.

R and I headed to Maryland for A’s second birthday party. Dada had shingles, so he stayed home with J and they had a boys weekend to themselves. R loved having Mama all to himself and playing with all the new toys at A and A’s house! I think he also liked the fact that no one there tried to push him aside or grab the toys out of his hands while he was playing.

Uncle Opie had fun trying to teach R to appreciate solid food.

And the birthday girl got to kick the cups over as many times as she wanted.  A successful day for all.

Bubble. Day 14/365

I once stumbled across the perfect bubble sauce.  When you blew into the little wand thingie you got loads and loads of bubbles.  All the bubbles we’ve had lately suck.  You get like 2 bubbles for every time you blow into the wand.  So, needless to say, J lost interest in the bubbles pretty quickly.  Gotta search out some better bubbles.  So here’s J and his one lonely bubble.
